**picky moment**

Do you smoke or have you ever smoken? You usually don't held the cigarette right in the middle of the lips... rather a bit to the right if you're dexter. Or to the left on the other case. Feels more natural, otherwise it looks like you're going to blow the ciggie like a flute!

** end of picky moment**

Other than that... I'm surprised you also do self portrait! Maybe these could also work in B&W :D

I wonder what's the project about, maybe one of those 365-me projects?

Yes I have smoked, but I wasn't smoking at the time, I was just holding the cigarette while I set up the camera (well in theory, obviously it was on a self timer and I knew it was going to go off).

The competition is this:

p.s. And no I wouldn't normally do self portrait at all, it's only for that competition. Whole thing terrifies me. What I *would* like is to do a kind of Cindy Sherman thing where I re-interpret my favourite fictional characters -- Rosemary from Rosemary's Baby, Charlotte from Lost In Translation... but that will require some time and a tripod, I think!

Yeah it's obvious you weren't smoking at that time. If only because it's not lit?

Now a bit of more useful criticism:

I don't know why but I can't help thinking of Winona Ryder at Reality Bites when looking at the first picture. It's got that grungy feeling... And although the lips are a little bit out of focus they totally get the attention so it doesn't matter that much that the eyes are cut off. I think that's why I noticed the odd cigg position. Although I'm not too sure whether your intention was to focus this or that, I'm actually quite a novice in photography eh?

I didn't know who Betty Draper was so I looked it up... you definitely look a bit sad on the second one. Dalston blues? Tokyo Blues? etc blues? Like you would rather be elsewhere but can't quite decide where...

So if the competition is about telling your story it looks like you're in the right track! :D

Ha that's exactly a. what I wanted to say and b. what the competition is about! Yay! Now I just need to get it in a decent bloody photo that will work in black and white. Will keep trying :)
